Article 4- In My Opinion

Summary: My opinion on extended warranties and a true story of a warranty that saved me from a major expense. I think everybody should purchase an extended warranty, but they need to be educated on what to look for in the provider and the coverage itself.

This is the twentieth article I am writing on the subject of extended auto warranties and this is my personal opinion on the subject. As someone who has done excessive research on the subject, bought many extended warranties, and benefitied from most of them, I think I have some say in this matter. Whatever your decision is, and whatever the outcome of your decision ends up being, I hope the time I put into writing these articles will end up benefiting you.

George Carlin said, "as with most groups, there are a few winners, and a whole lot of losers". I feel the same way with auto warranty providers. There are alot of great companies giving great coverage, at great prices. The reason they dominate the market is because they are honest and they benefit not only themselves, but the customer as well. These are the companies that you want to do business with. I will not go into specific names because I do not want to single out or endorse any companies. If you read what I have wrote on this website, and if you discuss your warranty options with people who have been in your shoes before, I believe you will make a purchase you will be happy with. I usually buy a for everything I can as long as it seems beneficial, backed well, and offered honestly. I have no problem paying for the peace of mind, having the warranty come through and do it's job is just icing on the cake in my opinion. I would never purchase an warranty for anything without first seeing and reading and analyzing the contract. If you work with honest people and make educated decisions you will not regret any of them. I believe that everybody should have an extended auto warranty, and the more people who purchase them, the more honest the business will become. As with car insurance, if everyone legally needed warranty coverage, the business would be looked at differently.

True Story. In 2002 I purchased a brand new car at a Ford dealership and at my first service appointment I was offered a warranty extension. The warranty was a little under two thousand dollars and covered my car until 100,000 miles or an additional three years after my manufacturer's warranty expired. I would be able to bring my car right back to my dealership service and only have a small deducible. I ended up purchasing this warranty and good thing I did! At around 75,000 miles my transmission no longer shifted into reverse and had to be replaced. The cost of the transmission and labor to install it was over four thousand dollars had I not had the warranty!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Everyone who is planning on keeping their car for a long period of time past their manufacturer warranty should have extended warranty coverage. You will benefit many times over if you do business with a financially stable warranty company that sells comprehensive coverage. Good Luck!
